Hour of Music: March 2012

Hello all! I’m on a “long” break between concerts, and so I borrowed this idea from another blog I read. The concept is that I listen to songs for an hour straight, and blog about what I hear. Whether it be a commercial free radio station I find online, or I put my Itunes on shuffle (with 30,000 songs), the only requirement is that I have no control over what I hear.

There all kinds of benefits to this – it digs up songs that I haven’t heard for years, it introduces me to some new songs on albums that I only know a few songs, and it forces me to listen to some stuff that allows me the opportunity to hear some stuff that I wouldn’t necessarily choose to hear. So here goes the inaugural One Hour of Music.

Editors Note: When I said that I borrowed this idea from another blog, I really meant that I blatantly stole it from a fantastic blog I read called The Great Southern Brainfart. Don over at TGSB was kind enough to share the idea, so do me a favor and go check out his blog!

Music Pill Update: March 2012

Too….much….music. Can’t….keep….up….

Greetings and salutations from the Music Pill!! There is so much going on in music this month, I had to get this post out before March Madness started. There’s a ton of concerts going around, but I blogged about that last month, so I’m going to stick to music this month. Here are some great albums that either have just been released, or will be soon, that are worth your time.

If there’s albums that I didn’t mention here that are great, you are hereby obligated to let me know about them. 🙂 Cheers.

Concert Review: We Came as Romans

Concert Review: We Came as Romans

Fire and Ice Tour
The Madison Theater – Covington, KY
3/9/2012

Concert time again!!! In light of my recent dive into the hardcore/metalcore genre, a few friends of mine took a liking to a band called Woe, is Me. We had been looking for an opportunity to catch them live, and were able to do that this past weekend as part of the Fire and Ice tour headlined by We Came as Romans.

I have to admit when I first saw this tour, I was a bit surprised that WCAR had the fan support to merit a headlining tour. I actually enjoyed both of their albums, but just didn’t necessarily feel like they stood out among other players that are active in the genre right now, and so the headlining slot surprised me a bit. So, I intended on going to this show to see Woe, is Me, and be a casual observer of WCAR to see what all the fuss was about. Once again, the free market proved me wrong – the WCAR show was really excellent, and once again showed me why going to see unknown bands is a great idea. You never know when a band like this will come out of nowhere and blow you away.
