Music Pill Update – June 2012

Hello all! Now that I’m finally caught up on concert blogs, I have a ton of exciting music news to pass along. I have been so busy lately that I have been going nuts trying to keep up with everything, so I’m excited to finally be getting this out.

I’m certainly not a news blog, so this isn’t an all inclusive list, but more a list of hand picked facts about bands that I really like and want to share. Included below are new albums and music, other interesting band news, and summer tours that have been announced. Check it out ! (For those that don’t like the variety like I do, skim the red font for bands you like! 🙂 Hope you find something interesting that you didn’t already know!

Concert Review: The Used

Concert Review: The Used

I Come Alive Tour
Bogarts – Cincinnat, OH
May 31st, 2012

I have been a huge fan of The Used for a really long time. I believe they are a unique band that carved a new niche in the many genres of music back in the early 2000’s when they first started. Since then, many have tried to follow them into that genre, and some have even been successful, but finding a band that can continually grow and progress for well over a decade, all while creating an extremely passionate fan base is a rare thing. The Used stormed onto the musical landscape with the song Buried Myself Alive in 2002, and they stayed relevant with the 2007 release of Lies for the Liars, which is a brilliant album that houses the likes of The Bird and the Worm and Paralyzed.

However, I’d argue that with their most recent album, Vulnerable, that dropped earlier in 2012, The Used showed that they are as strong as ever. I was very excited at the potential of seeing them headline their own tour to support this album, and then figured it was unlikely when I heard that they were headlining Warped Tour. However, they proved me wrong and booked a small string of shows that included a stop at one of my favorite venues, Bogarts. (I know, I’m as surprised as you are that they haven’t given me a membership of some kind). As is often the case, a big group of us piled into a car and took the 2 hour trip down to Cincinnati to catch the show. We were not disappointed!

Concert Review: Rock on the Range 2012 Day 2

Concert Review: Rock on the Range 2012 Day 2

Rock on the Range 2012
Columbus Crew Stadium – Columbus, OH
5/19-5/2012

I’m just going to come out and say it. As I get older, it’s getting harder and harder to get up in the morning on the second day of Rock on the Range and be anything but exhausted. After drinking and sweating in the sun for about 14 hours on Saturday, we got about 6 hours of sleep before we got up, showered, and started all over again. But, if there’s anything to get me excited enough to overcome that exhaustion, it’s a day packed full of music. By 9:00 am we were back in the parking lot cracking our first beers and getting ready for the show.

The lineup on Sunday was much more exciting, as it featured considerably harder bands and seemed like it would be much more intense. The shows that day really did turn out to be fantastic, and as I look back on it, I could easily pick a top ten shows, but I again identified the best five in my opinion and gave a snapshot of them below.
