Concert Review: Bring Me the Horizon

Concert Review: Bring Me the Horizon

Watching Bring Me the Horizon blow up has been one of the most entertaining parts of the music landscape the past few years. They have skyrocketed from niche deathcore band into prominent genre-bending headliner status worldwide. Amo, their latest album, was their most pop-focused record yet, and it topped the charts all over the world.

This show was spectacular. Heavy songs like “Shadow Moses” and “House of Wolves” meshed flawlessly with newer pop-sounding tracks like “Medicine” and “Mother Tongue”. From the blistering hard to cheesy pop and everything in between, Bring Me the Horizon’s music hit countless different genres, and felt extremely broad but tightly cohesive. Front man Oli Sykes lead the charge to weave the sound together by bringing a ton of emotion to every song.

Hour of Music: Rock on the Range 2012 Edition

It’s been way too long since I’ve written a blog. These past few months have been crazy – they’ve seen me finish a master’s degree, my wife and I finish the nursery, and my job continue ramp up in activity. I regret that I didn’t get more content out in the past month, but that just means I have a ton on my mind now.

Primarily on my mind is the highly anticipated yearly four day music festival called Rock on the Range. In two short days, a group of 9 of my close friends and I will be heading to Columbus, Ohio to see almost 40 bands.

So, while I’m stranded in the Kansas City airport on a work trip, what better way to reintroduce myself to the world of blogging than a ROTR version of the Hour of Music that I debuted in March? This hour will help me frame some the questions that will be answered this weekend, and give me a last minute chance to brush up on the bands that I can look forward to.

I have 72 minutes until my plane leaves. Let’s do this kids!!

Note: For a list of bands that will be at Rock on the Range this year, check out this link. To hear the song being described on YouTube, click on the album image.

Hour of Music: March 2012

Hello all! I’m on a “long” break between concerts, and so I borrowed this idea from another blog I read. The concept is that I listen to songs for an hour straight, and blog about what I hear. Whether it be a commercial free radio station I find online, or I put my Itunes on shuffle (with 30,000 songs), the only requirement is that I have no control over what I hear.

There all kinds of benefits to this – it digs up songs that I haven’t heard for years, it introduces me to some new songs on albums that I only know a few songs, and it forces me to listen to some stuff that allows me the opportunity to hear some stuff that I wouldn’t necessarily choose to hear. So here goes the inaugural One Hour of Music.

Editors Note: When I said that I borrowed this idea from another blog, I really meant that I blatantly stole it from a fantastic blog I read called The Great Southern Brainfart. Don over at TGSB was kind enough to share the idea, so do me a favor and go check out his blog!
