Picture Blog:  Rock on the Range 2012

Columbus Crew Stadium – Columbus, OH
5/20-5/21
Note:  This is a blog containing a selection of the pictures from Rock on the Range 2012.  For blogs about the music of the weekend, check out the previous two blogs:
Our group with some of the members of Black Tide., who opened the weekend up on Friday night  I like this band, but their show was a bit sloppy.

My favorite drinking game – Baseball.  It combines beer pong, flippy cup, and apparently Jager.  After some good solid drinking fun, it was time to go in!  🙂
The FYE stage right after we walked in.  Here’s a gut check for you – this is the medium sized stage at ROTR.
Right out of the gate, Emphatic blew me away.  Their set was really great.
Best show on the Jager stage goes to the three piece – Kyng – for their great metal set on Saturday afternoon.
Halestorm was the first band on the main stage that we caught, and their show was really good.  They played lots of hits off of their new album, and they all sounded incredible.  Halestorm is headed for big things.  I even love this backdrop.
Siblings Arejay and Lzzy Hale.  Both great at what they do.
Halfway through the first day and we already need a break.  Time for some food and relaxation.  We missed several shows during this time, including Chevelle and Theory of a Deadman.
In This Moment packs the Jager stage.  They have definitely improved since I saw them last, but her vocals were still far overpowered by other female vocalists that weekend.  (Specifically, Lzzy Hale and Christina Scabbia of Lacuna Coil)
Slash during his set.  I think he made a great call by bringing Myles Kennedy of Alter Bridge on tour with him – powerful combination of guitars and vocals led to a great all around set.
The great Slash – still going strong at 46 years old.

Bobaflex closing out the Jager stage on Saturday.  Bury Me With My Guns was a fantastic live song.  Overall, a very strong set from these guys.
One of my favorite front men – Ivan Moody of Five Finger Death Punch
Brent Smith doing what he does best.  Wailing to Crow and the Butterfly.
Three part harmony?  I love it.
Shinedown’s set was great – although for me personally it was a bit overshadowed by a headlining show I saw on their last tour.
The crowd is ready for the Saturday headliner….Incubus!!

Incubus playing my favorite song of theirs.  Great video by whoever took this.  Check it out!!  Sad to say, I missed this song as I was heading to the parking lot after a loooooong day.  I’ll see you in August, Incubus.

Breakfast on Sunday.  Yuuuum.
Slightly less chaotic tailgating on Sunday.  What can I say – we’re getting old…

Black Stone Cherry opens up the day for us by playing Blind Man.  I just think he sounds incredibly good.  I think I need to give this band some more credit than I usually do.  He also has a respectable guitar solo in the middle.  Nice work fellas.

My most anticipated show of the weekend – Matt Heafy of Trivium grins before he unleashes In Waves.  This show was absolutely brilliant.
Trivium in the middle of the breakdown for Watch the World Burn.   Incredibly awesome.
View from the side as we take a break.  I’m telling you, this concert is HUGE.
Attack Attack on the FYE stage.  I had high expectations for this show, and it was solid, but a bit disappointing for me.
Mastodon – Let it Roar!!
Christinia Scabbia and the rest of the Lacuna Coil crew doing their thing on the Jager stage.  We usually get closer to this stage, but I was flat out EXHAUSTED!!
The group ready to bring it home on the main stage.  Megadeth – Manson – Zombie left.  Everybody take a deep breath.  We can make it!! 🙂
Megadeth playing their set on the main stage Sunday evening.  They really sounded incredible.
Manson, get on with your creepy self.  This show was quite surprisingly very very good.  I really really enjoyed it, especially when the crowd went absolutely ballistic for The Beautiful People.
Manson taking his pillar for  his closer – Antichrist Superstar.   When he finished this song, and he was 30 feet in the air, with his arms out, the crowd was screaming.  Has to be a good feeling for a performer.
Zombie says to Manson:  “I see your creepiness, and raise you giant robots.”
Zombie, as a silhouette in front of his expansive set.  He also has a very cool Vega-esque claw on his arm.
Nothing like having the man himself right in our faces.
Five Finger Death Punch kicks of the main stage on Saturday night.  This set was bit heavy on the Ford advertising, but a cool set nonetheless.

And that’s it my friends.  Another Rock on the Range in the books.  What a great weekend!!  I hope to make next year our 5 year anniversary. Special shout out to my buddy Shane for relentlessly shoving people out of the way to get to the front and take a lot of these pictures for me.  Other than a 4 hour period where he had a giant fingerprint on the lense, he did great work, as always.  He has an unfair advantage though, he’s 6’11”, and usually quite drunk. Make sure to check out the other ROTR blogs for more info on the music  (links at the top of the page).

Until next time!
