So, as I am starting a new job soon, I spent about 3 hours the other day transferring approximately 120 gigs of music from my work computer (which I always have with me) to my desktop at home.  However, I was very sad to see that my ratings, play history, and smart playlists did not transfer over (still working on figuring this out).

Since I’ve been listening to songs on this computer every day for about 5 years, I thought it would be interesting to look at my 20 most frequently played songs over that time period.  I had no idea what to expect when I looked at the list, but found it quite interesting.  Check out the 20 songs that are played the most here at the Music Pill.  Some are legendary, some are embarrassing, and some are suprising as many of these wouldn’t make it anywhere close to a list of my favorite songs, but apparently I have the desire to hear them more frequently than anything else.  To break this top 20 list, the song had to be out for a really long time, and I had to reallly like it.  (For reference, the top Killswitch song has 231 plays in the last 5 years.  Obsessed much?)

If you haven’t heard of some of them, be sure to check out the link to the Youtube link for some new music that you might really like.  These are in the order they appeared on my Itunes list, with the most plays at the top.  Enjoy!

1.  Killswitch Engage – This is Absolution  (link)
Awesome song with a really cool video (featuring the Wall of Death).  Not suprised this is at the top of my list.

2.  Bullet For My Valentine – Tears Don’t Fall  (link)
I’ve loved this song since 2006.  It will never get old.

3.  Static X – Bled for Days  (link)
Completly shocked that this one is even on the list, let alone this high.  It’s a good song, and it makes me want to punch things.  Maybe I have anger problems?  Regardless, I don’t listen to it often, so I must have REALLY liked it back in the day.

4.  Trivium – Dying in Your Arms  (link)
This song helped me transition into my current love for Metal.  Another one that doesn’t get much play anymore but is still a great song.

5.  Slipknot – Before I Forget  (link)
If I would have had to guess, this would have been my pick for most frequent.

6.  Atreyu – Bleeding Mascara  (link)
One of my favorite songs of all time.  Atreyu’s hardest and best song.

7.  Hoobastank – Out of Control  (link)
This was a college hit for me, and while it doesn’t get nearly as much play as it used to, it’s still a great song.

8.  Five Finger Death Punch – The Bleeding  (link)
Still the best song they’ve ever written.

9.  Eighteen Visions – Victim  (link)
Mayday 2006?  Yes please.  Very bummed this band broke up.  Loved their sound.

10.  Invitro – When I Was a Planet  (link)
Ohhhh Invitro.  How I miss sitting backstage with you and watching you rock out.

11.  Barenaked Ladies – If I Had A Million Dollars  (link)
Sooo, this is my happy song.  I cannot hold a bad mood through this entire song.  By the end of it, I’m singing and smiling, every time.

12.  Clutch – Mob Goes Wild  (link)
How can you not love this song?  ESPECIALLY if you’ve seen it live.  It’s incredible.

13.  The Used – Crawls Like a Worm from a Bird  (link)
The only thing that could make this song better is if I could scream it in someone’s ear.  Great song that I first heard at ROTR 2009.

14.  Shinedown – Sound of Madness
Always a good album when I’m not in a Metal mood, this song sees the most play from a long list of good songs on that album.

15.  As I Lay Dying – An Ocean Between Us  (link)
Found this song when I found MusicMan1066 on Youtube.  He is amazing, and so is this song.  It’s one of my favorite songs to throw on when I need something angry to listen to.

17.  Hurt – Rapture  (link)
Although the premise of this song is a little bit weird, I really like how much emotion is in it.  It builds really well.  A classic.

18.  Kutt Calhoun – Walk With a Limp  (link)
I don’t even know what to say.  This song makes everyone I know laugh.  Talk about random.

19.  George Michael – Freedom  (link)
Annnnnd now you can see why I said some of them were embarrassing.  I don’t even care.  I love this song.

20.  Trivium – Pull Harder on the Strings of Your Martyr  (link)
Never thought Trivium would be the band that had two songs break the top 20, but I do love this song also.

So what does this say about me?  As far as implications on my musical taste, I guess the most prominent thing would be that I listen to a little bit of everything.

What are your thoughts?  What is on your top 20 most frequently played list?  Was it what you expected it to be?   What’s your George Michael?  🙂

Cheers.
